8th June 2026 – Port Augusta to Burra SA

It was not overly cold when we awoke but both of us really wanted to sleep in but that was not possible as today, we departed Port Augusta to head to Burra.

We were ready to go just after 8:30am and today we avoided the problems we have been having with the hitching of the caravan and the right-hand blinker on the caravan.  Everything worked first time.

We intended to stop at Crystal Brook for coffee but because of the public holiday for the King’s Birthday, everything was closed.  We continued to Burra and arrived at the caravan park in the late morning.

We were allocated four adjacent spots.  We had a problem with the jockey wheel on the caravan slipping that resulted in the nose of the draw bar sitting on the ground.  Three of us were able to lift the front of the caravan and place a jack under the drawbar.  The jockey wheel was fixed and the caravan levelled.

We purchased lunch from the Burra Bakery and had a quiet afternoon.  “He” was able to wash a lot of the insects from the front of the car.

Later in the afternoon, the daughter and son-in-law of our friends arrived.  They joined us for happy hour before going out to dinner.  We cooked in the caravan and watched television until late.  Tonight we fired up the air conditioning on heat mode as we are expecting a very cold night.
