9th June 2026 – Burra SA

The night was cold and for the first time since leaving home, we both pulled up the doona.  Today we slept in.  We have been getting up around 6:30am, today it was 7:10am.

Having looked around Burra a couple of times in the past, today we elected to revisit only a couple of the attractions including the lookouts that give you a view of the old Copper mine.  We also stopped at the abandoned railway station and discovered an old turntable.  We had a good look around Burra and then returned to the main shopping precinct where we ran into our friends.

We all had coffee before they departure on their exploration of the town.

We purchased lunch from the bakery and returned to our caravan where we spent the afternoon.  We had our usual happy hour where we discussed an alternative accommodation for this coming Saturday as the chosen site is not suitable if it rains and that is the weekend forecast.  We phoned Big 4 at Hay and booked four sites.

After returning to the caravan from happy hour, we noticed lights on a building on the other side of the creek from us. Knowing it was one of the two churches close to the shops, we hopped into the car, drove there and took a couple of pictures of the lights.  Churches with flood lights are a favourite subject of ours to photograph.

As we had purchased food from the bakery for lunch, we both had a light evening meal and then watched television for a couple of hours.  The wind we experienced today continued into the night.
