13th June 2026 – Mildura VIC to Hay NSW

We had another warm night which is strange considering winter started a couple of weeks ago.

It was hard to get started today but we were ready to depart at the same time as the other members of our group.  We are now well into the “heading home” stage of our trip with the days occupied with driving and enjoying the vibrant countryside as we pass through it.

Previously, because of the weather, we had booked a caravan park for tonight at Hay in lieu of a free camp on the Murrumbidgee River.

Leaving Mildura, we formed part of a long procession involving caravans and trucks.  We stopped at Euston to let the trucks pass and all but one did.  For some reason the one truck that was at the start of the procession stopped behind us and returned to the highway when we did.  For the next half hour or so, this truck provided us with a lot of entertainment as he tried to pass the vehicle in front of us after he passed us.  There was one occasion when he attempted to pass the vehicle in front of us at the same time a car approached from the other direction.  There was almost an accident with everyone having to stop to avoid the crash.

We stopped in Balranald for morning tea and then fuel and we finally arrived at the caravan park in the mid-afternoon.  We were all allocated sites that allowed us to remain hitched.  We decided that we would use the facilities of the caravan park for showers removing the need to connect water.  Much to our surprise, the water pump worked perfectly when we used the water from our tank.

We booked a table and had our evening meal in a hotel about 100 meters from where we were. camped.  We were lucky that the predicted rain held off until after we returned to the caravan.  It then rained overnight.
