7th June 2026 – Port Augusta SA

We set an early alarm for an 8:30am departure but a car horn sounding in the early morning killed our sleep.
It was our turn to reciprocate with a ride for one of the couples and we departed at 8:30am for Quorn and a ride on the Pichi Richi Railway. We arrived in Quorn just short of an hour early and had no problems in picking up our tickets. The time spent in arranging a linked booking paid a dividend. We were all allocated to carriage 407 and we found seats together.

Our trip was supposed to leave at 10:00am and return at 12:30pm. We arrived back close to 1:00pm. The steam train travelled from Quorn to Woolshed Flat where we stopped for about 1 hour. There was food and drink available. Due to the long weekend, the train had an extra two carriages and had only 6 free seats. Every one of our group enjoyed the trip and we experienced a green and lush countryside.

We had a latish lunch at a small café and the service was nothing short of great.

We refuelled prior to returning to the caravan and had a quiet afternoon, “He” watched the AFL whilst “She” washed her hair.

Not the first time this trip, we decided not to have a happy hour and do our own thing.

We had a light meal, watched television for a short time and went to bed early.
