21st May 2026 – Broken Hill NSW

We were very comfortable last night with the cooler temperature.

With our friends in the car, we visited the RFDS base at Broken Hill Airport.  This visit was exactly 10 years and one day since our previous visit when the base celebrated and anniversary.  The visitor centre had changed and was more modernised.  We purchased a jacket for him and some other souvenirs.

We also received a call regarding a link for the funeral service of our friends who have recently passed.  Later we shared the information with other members of our branch.

We had a latish morning tea at the Line of Lode cafe.

Then a quick shop at Coles to purchase cotton balls should we need to soak them in peppermint oil to repel mice from the advertised mouse plague in South Australia. “He” thinks that the media is providing incorrect information as our research including several phone calls to future destinations cannot find evidence of the plague.

We returned to our caravan for lunch.  Then the fun started.

“He” went to empty our toilet cassette and during that process as noise was heard inside the cassette.  A visual inspection disclosed a plastic device in the base of the cassette.

Our usual information source, YouTube, provided information that the device would be the float that is used to determine when the cassette is full.  The video also showed how to disassemble the cassette and replace the part.  As it appeared that the part was not broken but just dislodged, it was replaced into its position.  All good.

The car and caravan were then washed to remove loose dirt and insects.

We went back to the Line of Lode for a late happy hour and to watch the sun set in the distance.  Unfortunately, the cloud did not help but we still had an enjoyable afternoon.

We refuelled before returning to the caravan park and after arriving, “he” repacked the car having move the contents out of the backseat to allow us to provide transport for our friends.

For us another early night retreating to the warmth of our bed around 10pm.  This was after showering in the caravan and watching television.
