16th May 2026 – Florida Rest Area (near Cobar) to Wilcannia NSW

We were able to sleep for most of the night using only a sheet and the occasional covering of a blanket.  We did manage to sleep for most of the night which was a surprise.  10 hours of sleep, unheard of.

We set the alarm for 7:00am with a planned departure of 9:00am.  The group planned to refuel in Cobar, so it was suggested we do a staged departure with a separation of a couple of minutes between groups.

We left last and the drive to Cobar took about three quarters of an hour with the distance being about 50 kilometers.  Today we started to see more caravans on the road than previous days.

After refuelling at Cobar, we spent the next couple of hours driving to the roadhouse at Emmdale where we all stopped for an early lunch / late morning tea.  After Emmdale, the trip to Wilcannia was around 100 kilometers and we all refuelled on arrival.  It was during this part of the trip we started to notice a buildup of cloud, and we saw what appeared to be rain showers in the distance.

Tonight we stayed at the caravan park called Warrawong on the Darling.  We were allocated spots and it started to rain as soon as we arrived.

We all attended the camp kitchen for happy hour, and a cheese plate provided by the park.  The rain continued well into the night in the form of brief showers and late constant rain.  It was still warm and the weather forecast tells us that the rain will continue over the coming days.

Tonight we used Starlink in the rain and it worked a treat.  Our data usage has not been high, but we suspect we will have to purchase unlimited data before we return home as we are averaging about 5gb each day.

We hit the sack just before 10pm to the sound of rain on the roof of the caravan.
