15th May 2026 – Trangie to the Florida Rest Area (near Cobar) NSW

We experienced another warm night that was not expected.  It should be getting a lot cooler as we approach winter in two weeks’ time.

The owners of the caravan park allowed us a late departure, and the decision was made to leave at 10:30am and head to Nyngan where we would find a café for a late morning tea / lunch.  Several of the group refuelled which the remainer headed to Nyngan and a road with only a couple of minor turns.

We all arrived at Nyngan within a couple of minutes and soon we found a café that was able to cater for our group.  We think the owners were appreciative of our unexpected custom.

Several shopped at the IGA before heading out of town and turning onto the Barrier Hiway for the next leg to our overnight stop at the Florida Rest area.

At the rest area we found stops where we were all able to camp close by.  A quiet afternoon was completed with a happy hour until the sun disappeared below the horizon.  We all disappeared into our RVs for a quiet night.

The campsite is located not far from the main highway but there is not a lot of traffic.  We have seen very few RV’s and the Florida Rest Area is normally well patronised.  In addition to our group, there were only two other RV’s that stopped for the night.

We were able to use Starlink to get email and we watched the 6:00pm news.  When Starlink was shutdown, we had 73% of the battery remaining so we are still uncertain how long it will run for.

We put our heads on the pillow just after 8:30pm expecting to wake early.  It was another warm night with the temperature inside the door of our caravan sitting close to 25 degrees when we turned off the light.
