The trip today was relatively short as it was less than 100 kilometers. We had tried yesterday to contact the caravan park to see if we could arrive early, their normal check-in was 2:00pm, but the office closed at 4:00pm on weekends.
Expecting to arrive there in the afternoon, there was no pressure to get up early, so we set our alarm for 7:00am.
We were ready to leave by 9:00am so travelling by ourselves, we departed Home Hill. We tried to find the Home Hill Bakery and failed but we did manage to refuel.
We called the caravan park whilst driving and were told our site would be free after 10:00am. It was also indicated that the other sites allocated to our group may also be available for an early arrival.
The drive to Townsville was uneventful with little traffic heading in the same direction as us. We arrived at the caravan park just before 10:30am and it was then confirmed that all the other sites were free. We sent a text message to the rest of our group. Our campsite for the next two nights was Discovery Parks Townsville.
After going through the setup process, we left the caravan park and shopped at Coles at Annandale. We needed to purchase some bread rolls and a thousand islands dressing as one of our group members gave us some prawns.
Returning to the caravan park, we enjoyed prawn rolls before inviting friends to join us for a trip to a hill that overlooks Townsville.
We visited the Castle Hill lookout and spent about 30 minutes enjoying the almost 360-degree view of Townsville and the surrounds. We have been to Townsville before, and it will be of interest to compare photographs from 2011 to see how the city has developed and grown.
We returned to the caravan park for happy hour, had our evening meal and watched television. He managed to stay up to watch the Monaco F1 Grand Prix. The GP finished close to 1:00am and the Australian, Oscar Piastri, came third.
