24 May 2025 – Rockhampton to Home Hill Qld

As has been the case in recent days, we set the alarm for 6:30am and got up straight away.  We were awake when the alarm sounded as she had got up 30 minutes earlier for a comfort stop.

The day started as forecast, once again overcast and no rain predicted but we did have several spots of rain lasting the best part of 10 seconds.

We were ready to leave at 8:45am and departed the caravan in our usual group of three.  Our GPS devices came up with three different routes back to the highway and a short time after joining the A1, we regrouped.  Today she travelled with our solo lady with different members of our group taking turns.

The drive north was uneventful except as has been the case in recent days, watching some motorists, usually in 4WD vehicles, passing several vehicles at once in a manner we deemed to be dangerous.  He had a couple of problems that required a stop and that was followed by the freedom of the open road to catchup with our small convoy.

We stopped for a break and morning tea at Prosperine before arriving at the showground at Home Hill just before 1:30pm.  We had trouble finding camping spots in the showground but we all, eventually, found sites to camp with electricity for everyone and water for some.  The fee was $30 per RV so we concluded that the operators of the showground were making a fortune from the facility.  We could not access water.

We had a happy hour in the afternoon before returning to the caravan for our evening meal and an earlier night into bed.  Today we ran the air conditioning to cool the caravan as the temperature is still slowly rising as we expected.  We only have a short distance to drive tomorrow so a late start is expected.
