5th June 2026 – Wirraminna Station to Pimba SA

Our original planning included a stop in Woomera but during the planning process, we discovered that our intended overnight stop, the Woomera Travellers Village had recently closed.  The alternative was the free camp at Pimba adjacent to Spuds Roadhouse.

It was chilly when we ventured outside of the caravan after a long night’s sleep but there was not a cloud in the sky.  Just a stunning outback scene of flat green land.

To give people time to depart Pimba, we waited until 9:00am to leave for the short trip south.  Arriving at Pimba, the free camp was almost deserted and we found adjacent spots for all of the vehicles.

After a quick cuppa in the roadhouse, in two vehicles we drove the six kilometers to Woomera where we had a look at the rocket park followed by a visit to the community centre where there were a couple more exhibits to look at.  Leaving Woomera, we stopped at the cemetery, paid our respects to Len & Anne Bidell and then returned to the caravan.

We had a late light lunch then a quiet afternoon until happy hour where we played “The Shepparton Talk” by Len Bidell.  During the afternoon “He” fixed our radio in the caravan which had failed to work several days earlier.  A fuse had fallen out of the holder, bizarre.  During the afternoon we contacted RVGO in Sydney to see if they would service the caravan.  They sent us an email with a questionnaire so we will see if they can help us with the leak and chassis service.

After happy hour, all but two of the group went into the roadhouse for our evening meal.  The serves were very generous and enjoyed by all.

After the meal, we went back to a cold caravan to finish this blog and read until going to bed.
