9 June 2025 – Cooktown Qld

We both slept well last night.  He got up today feeling little effects from the trip yesterday to the top of Australia.

Today nine members of our group plus a small Jack Russell left the caravan park to travel initially to Endeavour Fall, then Elim Beach and the Coloured Sands followed by Isabella Falls on the return journey to Cooktown.

Endeavour Falls are accessed via the Endeavour Falls Caravan Park.  We had considered staying in this pretty caravan park but dismissed the idea with the park being too far from Cooktown.  The walk to the falls was easy and the descent to the falls a lot easier than yesterday.  The falls were flowing freely but unsafe to consider swimming or standing on thebank due to the threat of crocodiles.  Before leaving the caravan park, we had morning tea from the well-stocked business located on the site.

Next stop was Elim Beach.  The road to the beach was narrow and required passing through water across the road on several occasions.  Just before reaching the beach the tarmac was replaced with a soft dirt road.  We had to engage 4WD mode to get through some of the sand.  Entering a camping site, we had to pay a fee of $10 per vehicle to access the beach and the sand hills.  The cost was well worth the opportunity to look at and photograph this beautiful part of FNQ.  It was possible to drive on the beach, but we declined.  A couple of members of our group did take a long walk with the tide going out quickly.

Returning on the same route we then stopped at Isabella Falls which were spectacular.  You could swim here as the area is free of crocodiles.  We then stopped at the shop at Endeavour Falls where we all purchased lunch.

Before returning to the caravan park, we drove to the top of Grassy Hill where panoramic view can be seen of Cooktown and the area beyond.

Later in the afternoon we purchased some beer, $75 for a carton of Great Northern, before returning to the caravan park for happy hour.  We had fish for tea (Mackerel) before retiring for the evening.
