We had another warm night with the air conditioning running for the night. The air conditioning is loud and is located directly under where He sleeps.
The alarm was set for 7:00am and after She made the bed, we folded the bed back to access the filters on the air conditioning. There was a fair amount of water that had been condensed at the front of the filters and once the filters were removed, the particle filter was inspected and found to be clean, but the dust filter was filthy. The filter was cleaned and the unit reassembled. We are not sure if it is our imagination, but the unit sounds a little quieter.
Today we planned to travel to the Lions Den Hotel for lunch but before leaving, He decided to err on the side of safety and refuel the car before going. Provided we travelled directly to and from the hotel, we should have had enough fuel with the low fuel light possibly coming on as we returned. We also had the option of filling a jerry can “just in case” but decided on a full tank instead.
With heaps of time to spare, we decided to grocery shop before refuelling. The supermarket at Cooktown was a surprise as it was well stocked and for the most northern large town on the east coast (population is around 3000), the prices were reasonable. We paid $1.92cpl for fuel filling the car for the trip to the Lions Den.
We drove directly to the Lions Dens only stopping for pictures of a mountain whilst some of the group detoured to a lookout called Archer Point. Apparently, travel was by a dirt road with stream crossings and a rather steel assent / descent. They said the view was worth the drive.
For us the hotel was a disappointment in that they had no fish or steak specific for their steak sandwiches. We had booked a table only to find that one couple travelling with a small dog were seated in a separate section to everyone else. Our meals were fine, and we heard no complaints.
We returned to the caravan park via a souvenir shop where He was able to purchase a fishing shirt as a souvenir of Cape York and Cooktown.
Later in the afternoon our entire group met at the Cooktown public wharf for a sunset cruise with Riverbend Tours. It cost us $60pp for the cruise, the commentary and a great shared cheese platter. We were away for almost three hours, and the cruise was enjoyed by all.
We all went our separate ways when we returned to the caravan park knowing that our stay in this great little town is almost over as tomorrow, we leave the coast and start the dinosaur component of this trip. Cooktown is a great little town and will remain in our hearts for a long time.
