22 May 2025 – Rockhampton Qld

The alarm was set for 6:45am and we pressed the snooze button twice.  The day started with fine conditions with some cloud and the forecast temperature of 26 degrees.

Since leaving NSW, all we have heard about on the news is excessive rain and flooding that was about two days behind us whilst in NSW.  Had the trip been delayed for a week, we probably would not have made it out of NSW due to road closures.  We were lucky.

Today we had a free day to explore Rockhampton.  We had plans to visit the Botanic Gardens including a zoo and then the lookouts at Mt Archer.  But that didn’t happen as planned.

Our friends who we normally transport were to travel with another member of the group today and the nearby town of Yeppoon was mentioned as a potential destination.  We decided to follow.

Yeppoon is about 45 kilometers away and it took about 40 minutes to travel there.  When we arrived, we stopped at the visitor information centre where we were able to collect many brochures covering our trip.

After the information centre, we stopped at a café called “The two Sister” where we enjoyed morning tea.  Next stop was a lookout called “Wreck Point Scenic Lookout” that afforded s great views of the coastline and views towards Great Keppel Island to the east.  There were many other islands to be seen in the distance.  Next stop was at Emu Park where there is a monument that sings as the wind passes through it.

We returned to Rockhampton where we joined several other members of our group for lunch at the Criterion Hotel.  After lunch we visited the zoo in the Botanical Gardens, has his glasses fixed again and obtained fuel.

We returned to the caravan park just before 5:00pm and joined the groups happy hour.  We had a sandwich for our evening meal and watched some television before bed.
