Each night we are sleeping better, and it was easy to get up as the alarm sounded at 6:45am. She thought it was raining but the noise we could hear was the sound of the fountain in the lake close to our campsite.
Our preparation to depart went like a dream and we were ready to leave by 9:00am as planned. Today we decided to travel in a group of three and we would be tail end Charlie.
The lead vehicle left a few minutes before us with intentions to refuel before heading north so we followed the second vehicle out of the caravan park only to see the vehicle proceed straight ahead instead of turning right. Following, we corrected the error with an illegal turn and then shortly afterwards, we had to issue instructions by radio for vehicle number two to turn left onto the motorway as the vehicle was appearing to proceed straight ahead.
We travelled on a dual lane highway for a little time before it turned into a single lane with overtaking lanes every few kilometers. Our lead vehicle tried to maintain a speed of around 95kph but vehicle two could not maintain that speed. We managed to let vehicles overtake including four wide loads travelling together. You can understand why there a so many accidents on this road as the narrow road coupled with impatient drivers is a recipe for an accident. This was the infamous Bruce Highway.
We detoured into Maryborough for lunch and then resumed the trip to Bundaberg. A fourth member of our group joined us for lunch, but they travelled independently of our group.
We arrived at our destination, the Big 4 Cane Village Holiday Park which is located on the entry road into Bundaberg and not far from the airport. Entry into the caravan park was tight but it didn’t take long to check-in at reception, pay the balance of the cost of the stay and proceed to our site. Setup was quick and arrangements were made to have happy hour in the camp kitchen. During happy hour we organised a visit to the Bundaberg Barrell with our group planning to tour the facility at 9:30am tomorrow.
We purchased KFC for our evening meal before watching television and working on the computer until late into the night. He is the editor of the ACC magazine, The Nomad, and the Winter edition is due out on 1 June. He spent several hours updating part of the magazine and then trying to export the edition as a PDF. Unfortunately, several preset for digital publication had disappeared and he took a long time to solve the problem. We turned the lights out at 11:45pm.
