2 July2025 – Coonabarabran to Bathurst NSW

We had a good night and slept soundly.  The alarm sounded at 6:30am while rain started to fall on the roof of the caravan.

She went into the bathroom and found the floor to be covered with water.  The leak had continued all the night, so our first action today was to shutoff the fresh water supply.  The water was removed from the floor with the leak appearing to stop with the mains removed.

With rain falling and a lot of wind outside, we checked a BOM app which said it would stop raining in 47 minutes time.  The app was wrong as it stopped after 32 minutes.

With the rain stopped, he removed the water connection and the grey water hoses.  The cassette was emptied so most of the external work was completed without rain.  Next job was to get the car refuelled as the service station of our choice was closed when we returned from the observatory last night.

Upon his return, the route for today was discussed with the other two vehicles that would make up our small convoy.

We departed at 9:00am and had to stop shortly after to turnoff a light under the Navara rear canopy.  The light had been used last night when repacking the car.

We rejoined the other two vehicles and made our way to Gulgong where we had lunch.  Passing through Mudgee and then turning right onto the Ilford – Sofala Road, we arrived at Bathurst at the Bathurst Panorama Holiday Park just after 3:15pm.  Just before Ilford, we had to start the wipers for very light rain but that was not for long.

At Bathurst, we didn’t take long to get onto our site and do a setup without fresh water.  As we had planned to free camp for two nights, we had placed sufficient water into our tank so we should not require further water.

We decided not to have a happy hour with everyone tired and happy to do their own thing.  We did make so rough plans for tomorrow.

After we arrived at Bathurst, he formally declared that the road trip of our tagalong was over.  We will do things as a group tomorrow and on Friday we all go our separate ways.

We had microwave meals for tea before settling down to watch television.
