1 June 2025 – Cairns Qld

Several days ago, an old neighbour from home commented on a Facebook post enquiring if we were going to Cairns.  We responded and arranged to have lunch with them today.

With a very lazy day planned, we set the alarm for a late rise from bed and took our time getting ready for a 1:30pm lunch at a café called “Guyala” which was in North Cairns and very close to where we were staying.

We met Kim and Derek and enjoyed what was for us, a different lunch.  The food was excellent, the company great and the venue perfect.

We returned to the caravan park via a Coles store where we stocked up for several days.

After we returned to the caravan park, we were preparing to leave for an evening meal at Cairns RSL where we heard a loud bang from outside of the park.  Not taking much notice of the sound, it soon became clear what the sound was as the caravan park lost all power.

We were not concerned with the loss of power as our group was booked for an evening meal at the Cairns RSL Club and we crossed fingers that the power problem would be resolved before we returned.  So, we put the refrigerator onto gas, locked the caravan and jumped into the car and headed to the RSL club.

We enjoyed a happy hour in the club before having our evening meal.  During the meal we celebrated the birthday of Monica B supported by a suitable cake for the occasion.

Leaving the club, one of the ladies wanted to ride on the ferris wheel, “The Reef Eye” located near the Cairns Lagoon.  Most of the group, including both of us, had a ride.

Returning to the caravan park, we were pleased to see that the power had been restored just before we returned.  We watched a little television before heading to bed.  He intended to watch the F1 Grand Prix but fell asleep halfway through the race.
