22 June 2025 – Longreach Qld

We tried to have a sleep in and set the alarm accordingly however a cramp (He) and nature calling (both of us) resulted in the alarm being turned off and us both getting up.

We only had one activity organised during the day and our commitment was planned to start at 10:30am.  That activity was a trip and tour of the Australian Stockman Hall of Fame.  We had booked the tickets yesterday so we needed to get there early to obtain the tickets so they could be passed to our friends.  All our group other than 3 members took part in the visit.

Our booking was to have started at 11:30am but when we arrived, we were informed we could start with a short movie at 11:00am.  This suited us as we would save 30 minutes later in the day.

The movie showed the history of the Australian Stockman and the involvement with different type of cattle and sheep and the horses and dogs used by the stockmen.  At the finish of the movie, we headed outdoors to an enclosure where we were entertained by a stockman and his wife.  The focus was on animal control featuring horses and dogs.  He also was a master on whips and entertained us with many routines.  At the conclusion of the show, we had a quick lunch before visiting the museum part of the facility.  It was during lunch we heard of the American bombing attack on the nuclear facilities in Iran.

We returned to the caravan park prior to going out for dinner at the Birdcage Hotel which had been booked a couple of days ago.  Everyone attended. During dinner the opportunity to see the sun through a telescope was discussed.  This would be at Charleville in a couple of day’s time.  We came up with the concept but when it was time to book, we could not make a definitive decision and when we finally pressed the book button, all the available time slots had been sold.  Damm.  We tried to book for the day we arrived in Charleville but again, no vacancies.  We will miss this opportunity that we had mentioned to the group without securing our own tickets.

We returned to the caravan around 8:00pm, showered in the caravan and then watched television until late.
