17 May 2025 – Mullumbimby NSW to Landsborough Qld

The rain continued for most of the night, and our campsite was very wet when we emerged from our bed.  With the rain still falling, we had our breakfast, and it was around 8:30am when the rain stopped and was replaced with infrequent showers.

We were second last to leave today and that was a result of doing the external pack up after the rain had ceased.  After 8:30am, there was some blue sky, and the weather forecast for once was favourable with rain excluded from the forecast.

The caretaker at the showground advised us to return to the motorway by returning through the town and not to follow a windy and steep road that the GPS would want to take.  And that is what we did.

After driving on the motorway for a short period of time, the traffic slowed to a crawl due to an accident where a truck carrying a shed had left the road.  Not long after the accident and before we crossed into Queensland, we stopped for fuel.  Leaving the service centre, he managed to take the wrong exit from a round-about and 13 kilometers later, we returned to the service centre and rejoined the motorway.

We had chosen the motorway to by-pass the Gold Coast Highway, but the traffic was terrible.  We slowed many times before breaking free of the Gold Coast to head towards Brisbane.  Once again, the traffic slowed near Logan and the trip became somewhat of a burden.  People say that travelling across Sydney from south to north is a real issue, but I challenge that statement and say Brisbane is far worse.  We even had to pay a toll to cross the Gateway Bridge travelling at 80kph.  The only beneficial factor from the trip today was the great fuel consumption.

Finally leaving the highway to head toward our destination, we were relying on the GPS to take us to the caravan park.  That didn’t happen with the GPS doing a correction on the address entered and then taking us on a wild goose chase.  Google on a phone finally landed us at the correct location and not long after arriving at the Landsborough Holiday Park, we were on our site and partially setup.

We travelled to Beerwah and Woolworths to purchase a few items and noticed that there was a Specsavers in the complex.  He managed to break his glasses earlier today and a phone call to Specsavers confirmed we had time to take the shopping back to the caravan and return before they closed.  Naturally the broken glasses were at the caravan.

We managed to return well before 4:00pm, he got the glasses fixed and she managed to purchase several tops from a Kmart store.

We joined members of our group for happy hour in the caravan park BBQ area.  Today we confirmed with the members of the group that the couple of returned to Sydney will not be rejoining our adventure.  Their vehicle will be repaired under warranty, but the receipt of parts and the scheduling of the service will put them two weeks behind us.We cooked sausages for our evening meal and then watched television until late into the evening
