13 June 2025 – Mt Surprise (Undara Lava Tubes) Qld

With nothing planned until the early afternoon, we decided to extend our stay on bed to well after 7:00am.  Some of our group had booked tours during the morning but our only tour required us to leave around 12:20pm for a 1:00pm tour.  Several members of the group had decided to pursue other activities including climbing and then walking the circumstance of an extinct volcano and another left by car to visit several towns not far away.

She decided to do a little hand washing so we extended our awning and attached a drying line.  Whilst this was taking place, He decided to refill the car as we do not have enough fuel to reach our destination.  When enquiring as to where fuel could be obtained, He was informed that the cost of fuel was 2.74 per litre.  Considering that the next place to purchase diesel fuel is about 129 kilometres away, He decided to fill our 10-litre jerry can simply as a precaution.

We had an early lunch and then walked to the departure point of our tour.  We had the same guide as last night and we were taken to three lava tubes.  Two of the three had water that was around the 22-degree Celsius mark.  The water is the result of the recent rainfall.

After returning to Undara, we took advantage of happy hour in the bar where a 20% discount was offered.  He managed to hurt his left knee as he stood from a table and the pain made it very difficult to walk back to the caravan.

We had booked for an evening meal at 7:00pm and we walked the 400 or so meters back to the restaurant just after 6:15pm.  He struggled but we got there.  The meals were excellent, and we returned to the caravan just after 8:00pm.

With no television and a fluky internet signal, we spent some time on the computers intending to download email which eventually happened.  The outside temperature has started to drop so we will likely change to our winter wardrobe in the next day or so.The caravan is cool so our warm showers in the caravan tonight were perfect.  We didn’t have a late night as we have an early start tomorrow with just under 350 kilometers to drive
