2 December 2019 – Blackheath NSW

We went to bed just after 11:00pm with the sound of high winds outside the caravan.  The wind continued overnight and was, from time to time, accompanied by short bursts of light rain.  The weather forecast for today was a maximum temperature of 14 and a minimum of 8.

Following our experience when we travelled to Warrnambool VIC without suitable clothing, we did bring suitable clothing with us on this trip in anticipation of some cool weather.  Since leaving Sydney two weeks ago, we have experienced temperatures from as low as 3 to a high of 40 degrees Celsius.

Many of our group departed today but we had decided to spend another day in the mountains and do a little sightseeing.

With a fire burning in the Jamieson Valley and close to Echo Point, we decided to drive get and endeavour to photograph the “Elvis” helicopter (Skycrane) that was water bombing the fire.

We managed to park close to Echo Point and were lucky when we were given a parking ticket for about 40 minutes from a lady who was leaving.

We did get a glimpse of the water bombing before receiving a call from another member of our group telling us that we were about to be booked for parking illegally.  We decided to return to the car, just in case as we felt that we were parked correctly, only to find several members of our group talking to a ranger who indeed was booking car for being parked in a “workzone”.  Being distracted when given the parking ticket, we did not take notice of the sign.  We were lucky that our friends had arrived when they did as all of the other vehicles close to us were issued with $268 fines.

We all decided to head to Lithgow Workers Club for lunch and we agreed to buy drinks due to our good fortune in avoiding the parking fine.

About an hour later we arrived at the workers club where we enjoyed lunch before returning to the caravan park via the Bells Line of Road.  One of the other couples took the opportunity to descend to the valley by the road that we had discovered yesterday.

We enjoyed happy hour with the remainder of our group.
