22 July 2019 – Blackheath to Sydney NSW

It was very pleasant when we poked our noses out of the caravan door.  Sunrise had created a lovely pink sky to the east and the cloud cover of the Blue Mountains was starting to disappear.

With no water connected to the caravan, no drain hoses to coil and the caravan still connected to the car, it didn’t take us long to prepare for our departure.  One of the reasons in staying at Blackheath was to avoid the Sydney peak hour / weekend traffic so we made sure that our departure was late enough for the Sydney morning peak traffic to clear.

We left just before 9:00am and refuelled at Katoomba.  With most of the trip being “downhill” from Katoomba, we expected our fuel burn to be very conservative.  Actually, by the time we arrived home, our consumption per 100k’s would be just under 10 litres.

The run home was uneventful and was in light traffic.  The only problem we encountered was being in the wrong lane on the M4 and rather than taking the exist to Concord Road at Strathfield, we found ourselves heading into the recently opened WestConnex tunnel and exiting at Haberfield.   It cost us a toll but made the final part of the return journey very easy.  Never know, this might become a regular way to return home as we avoided numerous traffic lights and numerous turns.
