11 August 2016 – Ravensthorpe (Meridian Rest Area) to Esperance WA

We had a quiet night with very little noise from passing traffic.  We emerged from the caravan for an 8:30am departure knowing we only had to drive for a little over two hours.

We had a relaxed drive again through farming land and massive canola crops.  The contrast between the yellow and green fields and then a rich blue sky was something to behold.

We had a surprise when a small aircraft crossed the road in front of us.  The aircraft, a crop duster, was barely above the power lines.  It passed from left to right, turned and then crossed in front of us again as it flew low over trees.  Our friends that were behind us initially thought that it was a model aircraft before we assured them it was real.  Later when discussing the movement of the aircraft with our friends at happy hour, we did agree that a motor vehicle accident could have resulted from surprise of having an aircraft travel across a road just above you.

We arrived at the caravan park for our intended in overnight stop late in the morning and after swapping allocated sites (there was a big branch over the site initially allocated), we were setup just after midday.

“She” managed to do some washing in the afternoon whilst “He” cooked all of our onions in anticipation of having to go through a check on the border when crossing back into South Australia in a couple of day’s time.

We enjoyed another happy hour with our friends when we planned our intended sightseeing tomorrow.

We enjoyed steak, onion, sweet potato and pumpkin for our evening meal.

The forecast rain arrived just after 7:00pm however the forecast storm didn’t.

We continued to watch the Olympic coverage very late into the evening.
