6 April 2011 – Echuca to Daylesford VIC

Our luck with the weather continued when we awoke to another perfect day with wall to wall blue sky. We are now starting to forget what clouds look like.
I think we have mentioned in the past that we have an exceptional record of good weather when travelling and this trip is another example of rain commencing in Sydney immediately following our departure. Maybe we should approach the relevant water authority and seek employment to schedule travel to ensure that Sydney’s water supply is kept replenished (if only!).

The day started with the usual community breakfast and briefing with the briefing covering the places we could visit on our way to Daylesford.

We were in no hurry to leave as the trip was only relatively short and we intended to make several stops along the way.

We stopped in Bendigo at a BCF (we call it beer, camping and fishing) outlet where we managed to acquire a couple of new wine glasses and then at the local wool mill where “She” purchased wool for our Daughter-in-law to spin and wool to make a jumper for our Grandson. In between the two stop, McDonalds provided the venue for a very quick and light lunch.

Next stop was at the Chocolate Mill which is located on the Midland Highway at Mt Franklin (just short of Daylesford) http://www.chocmill.com.au/ where we enjoyed a cup of hot chocolate (and this is far from an “ordinary” cup of hot chocolate) and purchased some bars what would be enjoyed at a later time. We also managed to see a demo of how the chocolates are made. At the time of writing this, the Chocolate Mill is up for sale with the current owners determined to find the right person to continue the business.

We made a brief stop at a bakery in Daylesford before continuing to the Daylesford Caravan Park which is located within walking distance of Lake Daylesford. We have visited this area before and were content to spend the afternoon relaxing in the motorhome before attending the usual happy hour session at 5:00pm. We played “rummy” after tea.
