Monday 2 March 09 -Bathurst to Wellington NSW

The alarm was set for 7.00am but we stayed put for another 30 minutes before rising.

We departed just after 9.30am and took our time driving to Orange where we stopped to purchase some fresh food. We had lunch at a roadside stop and arrived at Wellington Caves just after 1.15pm. We booked a tour of the phosphate mine and the main show cave. We had a choice of camping anywhere in the camping ground so we chose a site that did not require the use of ramps. Once again we connected to town water with the intention of more long showers.

We were lucky to have a private tour of both caves with the guides taking extra time to answer all of our questions and take all the time we needed to see the caves. These caves are very unique with the number of fossils and bones that they contain and the main feature of the Cathedral Caves is nothing short of breath taking as the lights lowly illuminate the main feature.

This afternoon we had a series of small disasters. Firstly there was a connection issue with a join in the satellite cable that resulted in the need to replace a joiner. Unfortunately a crimping tool was needed but a small pair of plyers fixed the problem. Immediately after we received a signal, “She” found that the rail supporting our hanging clothes had pulled away from the top of the cupboard. “He” put the rail back into a new location as a temporary measure but we need to make a permanent repair when we return home.

Tea consisted of chicken steaks, salad and another wonderful bottle of Brown Bros. We watched the news, a couple of “soapies” and finally Underbelly. We went to bed at 10.30pm both wondering what tomorrow would bring when we join the Safari at Parkes.
